Hi Anish. Thanks for pointing this out. I believe I am not after the dilemma of which came first (media or reality). Instead, I am after the “source” of either party not during reality’s or media’s conception but during the stage where they seem to reflect each other.

There is some interesting point in your idea. But I have a few objections if you will. The media cannot exist without reality but reality definitely exists without media. The question you may want to ask is how reality is related to observer rather than the media.

Hi Emma. Welcome to Manila! There are no “pure” professional bookstores here in the Philippines. Or if there is one, I believe it’s not mainstream. Here are the biggest bookstores here in our country. Just go to their Business section to find something you need. Or better yet, ask the a bookstore staff for help.

Ive just moved to Manila and Im studying a Post Grad in Organizational Communication through an Australian University and Im trying to find a text book I need to buy. Do you know where there are some good professional/university bookstores that might stock Comms titles? Its called Communicating for Managerial Effectiveness. Thanks

Hi again, Red. I don’t know a lot about Dev Com so I cannot build a framework of comparison for me to use to compare it to OrCom. However, in my opinion, I believe that OrCom is leaning on the business/management side. Furthermore, you cannot really say that a degree program is better than another degree program without considering personal preferences. My tip for you is to research about OrCom and DevCom then choose the program that suits your preferences and/or your goals in career or in life.

Hi Cedrix. Yes, of course, you can be one. BA OrCom, afterall, is a communication degree. For the reporter occupation, the degree’s curriculum includes several units of speech communication subjects (Comm III, SpCom 133, SpCom 136, SpCom 137, OC 104). On the other hand, for the journalist occupation, the degree’s curriculum includes several units of written communication subjects (Com 1, Com 2, OrCom 109.1, OrCom 109.2, OrCom 199, OrCom 200). Not to mention, all major subjects of the degree will train you in written and speech communication.
